| Something very special - orign very old landhouses,restaurated, equiped with furniture,details out of this old times,you have to try hard,to find in our days something like this,not at all in museums often.The village down + lower FILIPPOU, 3 km up from VRISSES, 10 km to the long sandy beach of GEORGIOUPOLIS,is situated totaly in the landscape,only nature arround,olive grounds,hills,all that straight in front of WHITE MOUNTAIN resort. 3 different types of houses,all of them for up to 6 guests,with wild garden,trees,hidden places and more. Stone,wood,this is the material,dont care if you sleep in a bed,which has been formerly a loom,if your kids have their area on a gallery,beside the wine barrels,or,the door to your bathroom (sometimes outside like in old times) long ago sure belongs to a church. PETS are welcome ! ! ! Here in that place, you realised it, you will need a car,shopping,banks,taverns,everything you will find in VRISSES,3 km,to the town of Rethymnon you drive about 1/2 hour,the beaches are near Geogioupolis,which is special for children,and the sweet water LAKE of KOURNAS has also a distance,but about this I can inform you too .............. if you want information. HEATING possibilities are in the houses,WINTER HOLIDAYS here on Crete can get possible. Some more details about the houses: Country House Pananos: Also set behind stone walls this old villa is suitable for 4-6 people. There is an old stone patio charmingly smothered in overgrown vines and trees, with stone seating and an outside shower in front of the entrance area. The living area has a sleeping gallery with a double mattress for children, leading to a split-level kitchen. From here there is a large living/dining room with little stone niches, a fireplace, old piano and various sofas. A few modern steps lead up to an open living area, with bookcases, some seating and a sofa bed. On the lowest level is a pretty bedroom with an antique cast iron double bed. Outside the house is another traditionally furnished bedroom with a single bed and a sun terrace. Quaintly the shower/wc is set nearby outside in a detached little round stone building. Country House Faragi: This 2 storey house is suitable for 6 people, and is set above a small gorge from where the house takes its name. It is surrounded by a delightful garden with stone seating and a huge mulberry tree. On the ground floor are two traditional cozy bedrooms with stone walls and wooden beamed ceilings, one with an antique double bed and one with twin beds. There is also a large living room with wooden beamed ceiling, fireplace, dining table, sofa bed, as well as shower/wc, and a small utility room with a washing machine. From the kitchen one can reach the sun terrace. An open wooden staircase leads to the bedroom on the first floor with a double bed. A few steps higher and there is a large sun terrace with patio furniture and delightful views of the surrounding area. Vouros (for 6-7): 3 bedrooms (1 double; sleeping gallery with double bed; children's sleeping platform atop wine barrels), 2 bathrooms (1 in adjacent bath house, another entered from outside), living room with fireplace and steps to the sleeping gallery, fully equipped kitchen, washing machine. !!! In case you would like to make with more people holidays here at this place, there is anothe new houses closed by, so that in total in all the 4 houses up to 24 guests can be accommodated closed by !!! About the next place at the beach, Georgioupolis, with a 10 km long sandy beach: The village of Georgioupolis with it’s particulary beautiful setting between sea and mountain, is situated between the towns of Rethymno, a 30 minute journey by car and Chania which is a 45 minute drive away. This charming village with its long stretch of sandy beach and river running into the sea, was until recent times a sleepy little fishing village in an out of the way place. Over the past 20 years it has slowly grown into a very popular little holiday resort, with a wide range of tavernas, shops, cafes, boutiques and other tourist amenities. The beautiful countryside surrounding the village is ideal for those keen on walking, while the splendid sandy shore and relaxed sea side atmosphere make it ideal for beach lovers. There is and excellent bus service in all directions and thus it is possible to go quite far afield, for example to Heraklion (90 min journey) or the south coast perhaps to visit Phaistos or Matala. An outing to Frangokastello is also worthwhile. Closer to home there are interesting visits to be made to the old quarters of Chania an Rethymno. Lake Kournas, famed as the only fresh water lake on Crete and haven for wild life, is within walking distance from Georgioupolis. Some distance outside the village, a long row of hotels sits alongside the sweeping almost 10 km long pale fine sandy beach and crystal clear waters. However, a part of timeless old Georgioupolis remains very much in place. As in years gone by, the eucalyptus tree lined square remains the perfect place to sit and watch the villagers meet each other in the kafenions to exchange the news of the day over a coffee or ouzo. Crete by horse, here in Georgioupolis, exciting beach rides, beautiful mini-safaris and relaxing day trips.
