Location description	Die Kastela-Region erstreckt sich von Trogir bis Split und umfasst die "Kastelanski-Zaljev"-Bucht sowie das bis zu 630 m aufragende Kozjak-Gebirge im Hinterland - ein hervorragendes Kletter- und Wandergebiet. Das etwa 4 km breite Gebeit bewohnen heute 35.000 Menschen. Die 7 Kastela-Orte reihen sich fast nahtlos am Meer entlang, und fast jeter ist mit einem trotzigen Kastell bewehrt. Am besten lassen sich die Kastela-Orte mit dem Fahrrad erkunden, da man mit dem Auto meis wieder zur Hauptstraße zurückfahren muss und dher leicht die Orientierung verliert. Die romantischen historischen Ortskerne am Meer versträmen den Charme alter Zeiten. Landwirtschaft, Fischerei und Weiinbau werden gepflegt. An den Hängen gedeihen Obst, Oliven, und aus den Reben wird der süffige Kastela-Wein gekeltert. Die Orte der 7 Kastela sollen die Grenze zwischen den venezianischen Dalmatien und den Türken sicher. 1493 errangen die Türken in der nahen "Krbavsko-Polje"-Ebene einen wichtigen Sieg und eroberten 1537 dei strategisch wichtige Bastion Klis. So flüchteten viele Menschen aus dem Hinterland ans Meer, errichteten mit den Venezianern befestigte Schlösser und friedeten die Dörfer ein. Zur Landseite werden die Kastelle mit trotzigen Mauern, Wehrtürmen und Zugbrücken versehen, zur Meerseite präsentierten sie sich eher wie ein illustres Sommerschlösschen. 1648 nach der Befreiung von Klis, waren die Befestigungen überflüssig geworden, man erweiterte mit den Steinen der Wehrmauern die Wohngebäude oder baute neu. Aus dem Hinterland kamen immer mehr Siedler, die sich außerhalb der schützenden Dorfmauern niederließen
