Malerisches Städtchen (ca. 5500 Einwohner) am nördlichen Westufer des Lago Maggiore, 5 km südlich der schweizer Grenze. Locarno/Ascona 18 km nördlich, Verbania 20 km südlich. Cannobio hat eine schöne, zum See abfallende Altstadt mit engen Gassen, Treppen- und Bogengängen. Hübsche Seepromenade mit der Wallfahrtskirche Santuario della Pietà. Schiffsanleger mit regelmäßiger Verbindung (Linienschiffe, Tragflügelboote) zu den Orten am See. Im Ort schöner Badestrand (Kiesel, Rasen), Tennis, kleiner Jachthafen, sonntags Wochenmarkt. Empfehlenswert ein Spaziergang (markiert) an den waldreichen Hängen über das autofreie Dorf Carmine Superiore nach Cannero Riviera (6 km). Bei Traffiume (2 km) eine tief in den Fels eingeschnittene Klamm des Flüsschens Cannobino; vor der Schlucht schöne Flusslandschaft mit beliebter Bademöglichkeit.
Westlich von Cannobio erstreckt sich das Cannobina-Tal. Etwa 25 km schlängelt sich das Sträßchen durch das tief eingeschnittene Tal, bevor man über die kleine Hochebene Piano di Sale ins benachbarte, weite Val Vigezzo gelangt. Das Cannobina-Tal bietet im Kontrast zum nahen Lago Maggiore ursprüngliche alpine Landschaft. Es wird im Norden vom Gebirgsstock des Gridone (bis 2187 m), im Süden vom Höhenrücken mit dem Monte Zeda (2156 m) begrenzt. Auf engem Raume ist eine Vegetationsvielfalt erlebbar, von der üppigen subtropischen bis zum kargen Felsgipfel, die das Tal zum beliebten Zweitwohnsitz auch vieler Deutscher werden ließ. Der Großteil des Tales ist dicht bewaldet. Die beiden Hauptdörfer des Tales sind Falmenta und Gurro, jeweils über Stichstraßen erreichbar. Typische Einkehrmöglichkeiten in allen Dörfern.
Das Dorf Cursolo (ca. 100 Einwohner) liegt oben im Tal, auf ca. 890 m Höhe, an einem Südhang. Gute Wandermöglichkeiten. Einkaufsmöglichkeit in Orasso, 6 km. Zum Lago Maggiore bei Cannobio 20 km. Lohnend sind Ausflüge ins Val Vigezzo, nach Malesco (8 km) und Santa Maria Maggiore (12 km, öffentliches Freibad, 9-Loch-Golfplatz, Supermarkt), jeweils mit Bahnhof der Panoramabahn Domodossola-Locarno.

Fluganreise Eine interessante Alternative zur Anreise mit dem eigenen Pkw ist die Fluganreise zum internationalen Flughafen Mailand/Malpensa (etwa 25 km südlich vom Südzipfel des Lago Maggiore), verbunden mit einem Mietwagen. Die Urlaubsorte am Lago Maggiore liegen nur ca. 20-60 Minuten Autofahrt vom Flughafen entfernt. Auch der Flughafen Bergamo (wird als Milano/Bergamo verkauft) liegt in Reichweite.
