Finistère means literally end (finis) of the world (tère). It is a wild and impressive part of the Bretagne. In the north are the rocky shores of the Côtes d’Armor with protected beaches. The heather and the rock formations, rising high from the ocean are characteristal for the Departement. There are several bird sanctuaries, where more than 150 species of birds live. At the headland of Raz you can watch the power of the wind and the ocean, 72m below you. Inland are a vast number of rivers, small brooks and vast forests, which are, according to legends, inhabited by druids and other fairytale folks. The small island of Ile aux Moines, reached by a 10min boatride, one can ride around the island by bycicle.
In Southern Brittany, 5km west of the delightful market town of Quimperlé and 15km from the beaches at Moëlan sur Mer, between the bustling naval port and university town of Lorient and the charming medieval riverside city of Quimper. A wonderful base to discover this beautiful coastline including the artist's haunt of Pont Aven and Concarneau, all just a short distance away. Not too miss for the children, the fantastic Pont Scorff zoo just 17km away.
