Le Tholonet was one Cézanne’s favourite places. Its red soil, grey rock, and blue sky with Mount Sainte Victoire in the background, offered extraordinary colours. No to be missed: Château du Tholonet, also painted by Cézanne and one of the milestones on the Cézanne route, which presents the important sites during his time in the Aix area. The small village of Le Tholonet offers stunning views of Mount Ste Victoire and the magnificent countryside around it, as well as several pleasant restaurants offering lovely gardens and shaded terraces for very romantic meals. Le Tholonet is also famous for its fine wines including “Vin de La Palette”.
