The pretty medieval village of Le Crestet is nestled between the Mont Ventoux and the range of hills named Les Dentelles de Montmirail, offering a wealth of wonderful walks and longer hikes for the active. Down the Malaucène road, a turning to the right leads to the tiny hilltop village from where signs direct you the short distance to the Crestet Centre d'Art (permanent and free access), where modern sculptures have been placed, almost hidden, in an expanse of oak and pine woods. Jewel of Roman Provence as its name indicates, Vaison la Romaine is a must to visit in the Haut Vaucluse. The city, highly interesting from an archeological point of view, is surrounded by the river Ouveze. On the right bank are two different quarters: the site of the ancient Roman colony and the modern town. Archeological digs have revealed immense, luxurious, and elaborate Gallo Roman homes.
